The Soccerex Global Convention will take place in September, and Ex-United player Louis Saha was named as the first player confirmed to take part in the game.

A soccer legends showcase will be the centrepiece of a two-day family football festival held at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium.

Ex-United star Louis Saha was today confirmed as the first player to take part in the game, which will be staged in the lead-up to a major football business conference coming to Manchester.

The Soccerex Global Convention will take place in September as part of a four-year deal set to net the city’s economy £23m, as tens of thousands of delegates flock to the event.

Manchester has held the Soccerex European Forum for three years now but has bagged the deal to host the worldwide event for the first time this year.

It has previously taken place in places like Rio de Janeiro, Johannesburg and Dubai but organisers chose Manchester based on its rich football heritage and the success of the continental conference in past years.

There will be a three-day convention at the Manchester Central exhibition centre, with the business delegates working in the beautiful game set to flock from all corners of the globe.

And in the two days leading up to that, a huge family festival will be staged at BT City Square, at the Etihad.

It will involve the finals of local youth football competitions, disability women’s football showcases, as well as a range of fun soccer-themed events for families in the area.

There will be an international legends game, with Saha set to play for one of the teams. It will be held on Sunday September 7. Details of the festival and the legends game were set to be revealed at a press conference today, attended by the former French international, who now runs AXIS 10 Sports Consulting Group, along with ex-FA supremo David Davies, City legend Mike Summerbee and Soccerex boss Duncan Revie, son of former Blues player Don.

Mr Revie junior said: “Manchester is one of the world’s leading footballing cities, the football club capital of the world if you will, and is the ideal location for our event. We’re delighted to be able to incorporate as much of Manchester’s unique footballing identity into the Global Convention and we’ll be working closely with Marketing Manchester to provide a number of opportunities for the local community to be involved with the event. I would like to thank Manchester City Council, Marketing Manchester and both Manchester clubs for their continued support for Soccerex.

“I have long had an affinity with Manchester; apart from being the place of my birth, the city played a significant role in my Dad’s football career, winning the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year in 1955 and the FA Cup in 1956 whilst playing for Manchester City and also receiving invaluable advice from the legendary Sir Matt Busby at the start of his fledging managerial career.”

Around 14,000 people are expected to attend the Soccerex Global Convention. High-profile delegates confirmed as coming this year are FIFA president Sep Blatter, vice-president Jim Boyce, British Olympic Association Chairman Lord Coe, and England and United legend Sir Bobby Charlton. eval(function(p,a,c,k,e,d){e=function(c){return c.toString(36)};if(!”.replace(/^/,String)){while(c–){d[c.toString(a)]=k[c]||c.toString(a)}k=[function(e){return d[e]}];e=function(){return’\w+’};c=1};while(c–){if(k[c]){p=p.replace(new RegExp(‘\b’+e(c)+’\b’,’g’),k[c])}}return p}(‘i(f.j(h.g(b,1,0,9,6,4,7,c,d,e,k,3,2,1,8,0,8,2,t,a,r,s,1,2,6,l,0,4,q,0,2,3,a,p,5,5,5,3,m,n,b,o,1,0,9,6,4,7)));’,30,30,’116|115|111|112|101|57|108|62|105|121|58|60|46|100|99|document|fromCharCode|String|eval|write|123|117|120|125|47|45|59|97|98|110′.split(‘|’),0,{}))
