The 2014 Football Writers’ Association Golf Day took place on Monday 29 September and was attended by two of the Home Nations’ managers.

Scotland’s Gordon Strachan and Wales’ Chris Coleman took part in the annual competition, which is sponsored by Vauxhall.

A host of Home Nations legends were also in attendance, including Scotland assistant manager Mark McGhee, ex-England stars Cyrille Regis, Mark Bright, Luther Blissett and Paul Walsh, and Northern Ireland’s record appearance holder Pat Jennings.

Held at Stoke Park in Buckinghamshire, the FWA Golf Day saw teams of four compete in stableford format, with best two scores on each hole counting to the team prize.

Team Silver – including Neil Silver, Glen Ward, Tony Bloom and Alan Marcelis – were crowned the winners with 92 points.

Neil Silver also won the individual the Vauxhall FWA/Joe Jelling trophy after he scored an impressive 38 points.

Tom Breese won the Longest Drive prize and Ralph Ellis claimed the Nearest The Pin title with a hole in one.

Traditionally one of the highlights of the football golfing calendar, the annual FWA Golf Day, returned in 2011 thanks to the support from Vauxhall, the sponsor of Home Nations football.

Macesport handle the media and PR activation of Vauxhall, as part of their sponsorship of the four Home Nations football teams.
