, part of the Spire Healthcare Group, have welcomed a major new appointment with Carl Wells joining the team at The FA National Training Centre. Based at Burton’s St. George’s Park, is a state-of-the-art human performance and sports medicine centre working with the England football team and members of the general public alike. A well-known figure in the Sports Science research community, Carl Wells joins as their new Sports Science Lead after a successful period at professional Championship football club Sheffield Wednesday. After finishing his undergraduate degree in Sports and Exercise Science at Liverpool John Moores University, Carl completed a PhD at Sheffield Hallam University focusing on Oxygen Update Kinetics in the Performance of Football Specific Exercise. With nine years of research, lecturing and consultancy under his belt at Sheffield Hallam’s Centre for Sport and Exercise Science, Carl then took up a role as Sports Science lead at the Owls supporting their successful promotion campaign in the 2011/12 season. Carl now heads up a world-leading team working out of state-of-the-art Human Performance Lab. Phil Horton, Perform St. George’s Park Director, commented;
