England’s Lionesses prepared for one of the biggest games of their careers at St. George’s Park over the past few weeks with the help of Perform.
England’s Womens’ Football team met Germany at Wembley on Sunday in front of a record crowd – a historic occasion as it was the first time the Womens’ team have played at the new Wembley Stadium.
The game against the current European Champions forms part of their preparations for the World Cup in Canada next summer and the team were put through their paces by the Perform staff at the National Football Centre in Burton during the build up.
Sports Science Lead at Perform Carl Wells commented: “We were delighted to have the England Womens’ team in at Perform ahead of such a big game.
“The World Cup is only a few months away and we have been working closely with The FA to ensure they are going to be in their physical prime when the big occasion comes around.
“Last week we were part of the physical assessments that formed an important part of their training and testing camp.
“The team were put through a number of tests. Using our twin force platforms we collected jump data, to look for asymmetries in force producing capabilities between left and right sides, and also measured the force production during an isometric pull test.
“Finally, we assessed their isokinetic strength capabilities on our Biodex Dynamometer, comparing strength ratios of the quadriceps and hamstrings, during both concentric and eccentric muscle contractions.
“We tested 28 players over two days and fed the results back into the England Women’s team support team and we will be repeating the testing procedure in the new year as they continue to work towards hitting their peak in Canada.”
