The National Football League announced today that Carlton Vale Infants School has won the NFLUK Play 60 challenge for the 2014 season.

The prize of a $10,000 cheque was presented to the school by NFLUK’s head of community affairs, Aden Durde.

Based in Brent, Carlton Vale Infants School were new to the ‘Play 60 Challenge’, the backbone of the NFLUK’s community events programme, for the 2014 season. They were chosen out of the 30 schools that participated in the initiative.

Carlton Vale head teacher Helen Mooney said: “We are a very disadvantaged school economically and this will go a long way for us. It’s made our week to hear we’ve won!”

Play 60 is an NFL initiative that encourages children to participate in 60 minutes of physical activity per day. The participating schools were given an activity booklet and classroom scoreboard to track how much activity they achieved per day.

The six-week programme ran throughout the duration of the 2014 NFL International Series games at Wembley.

In advance of the 2015 NFL International Series, NFLUK is launching a new Play 60 initiative, which will see six London schools from the London boroughs of Brent and Lambeth paired with the teams coming to London for the Wembley games, the Miami Dolphins, New York Jets, Jacksonville Jaguars, Buffalo Bills, Kansas City Chiefs and Detroit Lions.

The children will participate in flag football tournaments and drills, as well as being coached on vital character development skills.
