Perform’s world-leading rehabilitation and performance facilities at St. George’s Park National Football Centre this week hosted the Grand Turismo Academy drivers ahead of their 2015 season.
GT Academy is an international virtual-to-reality competition that provides the opportunity for the best Gran Turismo players to compete for the once-in-a-lifetime chance to become a professional racecar driver.
The group of drivers embarked on a grueling 3-day training camp which combined all aspects of sport science analysis, fitness testing and recovery sessions. Each element had a focus on developing each individual to achieve the grand prize – a spot on the Nissan racing team.
The team were able to maximise their visit to the Perform facilities by combining sessions such as circuit testing using the strength and conditioning gym as well as using the sprint track for developing their fitness levels.
Perform Director, Phil Horton commented: “It’s fantastic that we are able to welcome teams such as GT Academy to Perform, it means they are able to take advantage of the highest levels of sports science testing to help progress their development through the scheme.”
The 2015 Blancpain endurance series is soon approaching with the first race of the season taking place on 11th April in Monza, Italy. The British leg of the series is due to take place at Silverstone on 23rd May.
Florian Straus, GT academy winner said: “Being part of the programme has given us the opportunity to use all of these great facilities. It will definitely help our preparations to bring in some good results this season.”
Apart from developing the drivers fitness levels GT Academy also look for talent, drive, and dedication to determine who really has what it takes to become a professional racecar driver.
