St. George’s Park has been confirmed as the 2015 Rugby World Cup team base for Argentina and Ireland, but it seems it isn’t just current players who can see the benefits and attraction held at the National Football Centre in Burton.

Following his retirement in 2006 Leicester Tigers and England utility back Austin Healey this week chose the facilities of Perform, St. George’s Park to progress his rehabilitation following a recent knee operation.

The former English rugby union player was able to spend the full day utilising the world-class facilities and the expert knowledge of the staff to progress the healing process of his injury.
Perform Director, Phil Horton commented: “With the amount of facilities we have here there is no doubt in the attraction of athletes and ex-professionals to Perform. It’s great to have Austin here to help with his recovery and rehabilitation process.”

During his visit, Austin was given a full assessment of his injury. He then received specific physiotherapy treatment and under went a series of functional tests to assess range of movement.

Austin said: “What a fantastic sporting facility, with everything under one roof. It is a perfect environment for athletes and non athletes to get all the care they need in one place.”

The Perform facilities are open to use for clubs from all sports as well as individuals who are able to use the facilities for either a full day or half day and can access all areas.

A key facility housed at Perform is the hydrotherapy Centre. The centre uses the latest aquatic therapies and equipment with elite and non-elite athletes and private clients to improve rehabilitation and recovery rates. Aquatic physiotherapy can help relieve pain, promote relaxation, mobilise joints, strengthen muscles, and improve general fitness.

Austin will now continue his treatment and recovery at our partner centre, Perform Birmingham.
