Nottingham City of Football project are giving local girls the chance to show their support for Notts County Ladies in the FA Cup Final at Wembley next month.
As part of their programme to increase female participation in football across the city Nottingham City of Football are offering girls the chance to go to Wembley and watch the Notts County Ladies in action against Chelsea for FREE.
Amanda Chambers, Managing Director of Nottingham City of Football, commented; “We are delighted to be able to offer girls and their parents the chance to get behind Notts County Ladies and help Nottingham takeover Wembley for the day.
“Notts County have done amazingly well this season and by giving girls in the city the chance to see them in the biggest stadium in the country we are hoping that they will be inspired to follow in their footsteps and enjoy even more football.
“The girls only sessions which are being delivered by both Nottingham Forest in the Community and Notts County in the Community have had a surge of sign ups since the World Cup heroics of the Lionesses and we are building a programme of summer football activity for women and girls throughout Nottingham. ”
Alex Greenwood and Danielle Buet from Notts County Ladies visited Nottingham University Samworth Academy with the FA Cup this week to meet some of the girls taking part in football sessions provided by Nottingham City of Football.
Female only sessions have been running across the city for the past two months and everyone who has taken part in the activity is eligible for a place on the free coach down to Wembley to watch the historic first Women’s FA Cup final at the home of football.
The on field success of England and Notts County Ladies has already seen a huge boost in interest in female football activity across Nottingham and it is hoped that these incentives will help increase that further.
Places on the trip, which includes travel to and from the capital, are also being offered as a competition prize on the Nottingham City of Football twitter account. Alex Greenwood, star of Notts County Ladies FC, commented; “It has been great to come down to the Nottingham University Samworth Academy and watch the girls enjoying their football session today and we are delighted they will be showing us their support at Wembley at the FA Cup Final.
“We all started out our football journey playing in sessions like this and it is vital for the game that we encourage more and more girls to take part and enjoy playing football at whatever level they like. ”
Girl’s sessions are already under way with Notts County and Nottingham Forest Football in the Community programme and there is a brand new Female Footy Fives five a side football scheme on Monday evenings.
Nottingham was crowned England’s City of Football by Sport England and will receive £1. 6million of National Lottery funding over the next two years.
Key challenges to be met include raising the levels of participation in football in Nottingham promoting the cultural, social, health and educational benefits of football, supporting diversity among those playing football, and creating new initiatives, which can be replicated across other regions in the country.
