Nottingham City of Football are appealing for help to put the city on the map – as Nottingham is shortlisted to become England’s “Home of Sport”.

Voting has opened for the accolade after a summer campaign by ‘VisitEngland’ to find the best sporting destinations up and down the country.

And thanks to a fantastic season of sport – from England’s Ashes victory at Trent Bridge through to the Cerebral Palsy Games – Nottingham won the hearts of the crowds, becoming the “people’s choice” nomination.

Now the great and the good from the city’s sporting heroes have got behind the bid, urging people to cast their vote before the closing date on October 19.

It will be the latest honour won by Nottingham thanks to its sporting talents, after being named City of Football in September last year.

Jeff Moore, chairman of the Nottingham City of Football project, said: “Nottingham would be a deserved winner of the Home of Sport.

“We are immensely proud to have been voted the City of Football and to win this award would cap off a great sporting period for the city.

The city is also already preparing to celebrate its sporting heritage with the release of Forest documentary “I Believe In Miracles” retelling the story of the superb wins of the European Cup in 1979 and 1980.

And director/producer of the film, Jonny Owen, could not be more sure that Nottingham is the Home of Sport.

“The Nottingham people are quite modest, they are not boastful. It’s one of the reasons I wanted to do the film, to shout about the city’s successes. I am totally behind the campaign.”
