Many elite football clubs in the midlands including Stoke City, West Bromwich Albion and Burton Albion, are all very familiar with the St George’s Park facilities including our own Perform facilities. We have helped many of their players back to full fitness through our residential rehabilitation programmes and hosted a number of pre-season training camps.
However such is our reputation for both world-class facilities and expert staff, we attract clubs from all over the country to support their physiotherapy and medical teams. Over the past few weeks Perform has helped 3 first team players from Crystal Palace with our bespoke return to play packages. Bakary Sako (hamstring), Yannick Bolasie (hip) and Jason Puncheon (hamstring) have all made the trip to our Staffordshire home to be assessed by our expert Sports Science team in our Human Performance Lab. To give the Palace medical team a clear view of how all of the players were progressing in their rehabilitation, they were put through an isokinetic assessment, force plate analysis and balance tests. The team were looking for any imbalances between muscle groups and areas of weakness that could be addressed to get Bakary, Yannick and Jason back to playing quicker, as well as avoid reinjures.
The Perform team were in constant communication with Palace’s Head of Rehabilitation Sean Connelly who commented “The facilities and expert staff at Perform St. George’s Park provided an excellent return to play service for all three players.” Both Sako and Bolasie have made their returns to the pitch with Puncheon expected to return soon.
The same return to play assessments are available for semi-professional and amateur players who may be struggling with reoccurring injuries. Perform adopts a holistic approach to its care for all patients, so any problems the sports science team detect can be addressed quickly by our physiotherapy or sports medicine teams to get patients back to playing as soon as possible and with significantly less risk of further injury.
