Perform at St. George’s Park have been appointed by The Football Association as the preferred choice of healthcare provider to carry out the Scholar Cardiac Screening programme.

The Scholar Cardiac Screening Programme was implemented to help minimise the risk of an athlete or player suffering from an undiagnosed heart condition. The screening programme promotes health, and encourages the overall wellbeing of players – ultimately saving lives!

As part of the FA Medical Education Centre Screening Programme, all Scholars are offered the chance to undergo Cardiac Screening. This medical screening programme is funded jointly by the FA and PFA and there is no financial cost to clubs who wish to use this service.

Perform carries out cardiac screening services to the 24 England teams and to youth and professional senior players up to Premier League level. It is now mandatory that every player playing in the Premier League or any UEFA competition must have at least one ECG and Echo in their medical folder.

We have multiple mobile screening units which we can bring to your club, saving valuable time and other club resources. The cardiac screening team will consist of a Clinical Physiologist and a Cardiac Technician who will perform the ECGs and Echocardiograms. Any additional screens, e.g. six monthly or annual screening of other academy players can also be included and for larger numbers, we will provide additional staff to ensure that all scans are completed on the day. All the screens will be reviewed and reported by an FA Consultant Cardiologist.

Perform at St. George’s Park is part of Spire Healthcare, with 38 hospitals across the UK, we can also provide a hospital venue and a secondary care pathway/follow up if needed via the Spire Healthcare network. (e.g. cardiac MRI, 24 hour ECG monitoring, stress test). In addition, Perform and Spire Healthcare can also look after your blood pathology needs.

Why choose Perform?

  • We are The FA’s preferred provider of scholar cardiac screening
  • All of our screens are reported and reviewed by the FA Cardiology Consensus Panel
  • We can screen any number of players in any one day and can provide additional staff to ensure that all screens are completed on time
  • Perform will send copies of reports to GPs
  • Perform is part of the wider Spire Healthcare organisation providing access to a clinical care pathway for secondary care and follow ups

With high profile cases such as Fabrice Muamba and most recently the retirement of England & Nottinghamshire Cricketer James Taylor through cardiac issues, the emphasis on screening has been prominent and calls for more young people to be scanned as a precautionary measure.
